San Marcos school district sets attendance lines

SAN MARCOS -- San Marcos Unified School District trustees on Wednesday night approved the redrawing of school boundaries.  This will establish which neighborhoods would be attending the district's 11 elementary schools.

Joli Leichtag Elementary School

The new school is a $21 million, 52,335-square-foot elementary school which will be located on 22-acres at the corner of Oleander and Mimosa avenues (on the border of Vista and San Marcos).  It has been named the Joli Ann Leichtag Elementary School  in recognition of a $6 million endowment the San Marcos School district recently received from the Leichtag Family Foundation.

The P.A.C.E. Promise

The endowment is for the district's higher education partnership with Cal State San Marcos and will help students attend the university on four-year scholarships starting with students who graduate from San Marcos High Schools in 2009.  To view the guidelines which students must meet please visit either the San Marcos Unified School District site or the California State University San Marcos Site. The foundation co-founders Andre "Toni" and Lee Leichtag created the endowment in honor of their daughter Joli Ann Leichtag, a former kindergarten teacher in the San Diego Unified School District who died last month of cancer at the age of 60, according to school officials. Thank you, Leichtag Family!

$21 million for an elementary school should make people jump to want to live in that district. That's a nice gift of $6 million to help out.

That is alot of money for a school. You would think it cost that much to build and get set up.

Wow, what a very generous gift to the schools there! I am sure parents will be excited for their children to attend!
