Bird Rock, La Jolla

The Bird Rock subdivision of La Jolla is best known for it's stretch of beach lined with multi-million dollar homes, quiet parks and vista points. The parks or vistas will reward visitors with a spectacular view of the beautiful houses overlooking the many reefs and small coves of the rugged shoreline, include Hermosa Park at the intersection of Camino de la Costa and Chelsea Avenue, and Calumet Park on Calumet Avenue at Colima Court. These parks tend to be very quiet and uncrowded — a great place for an afternoon picnic.

If you want to enjoy the beach; there are access stairs to the shoreline at the North Bird Rock vista point on Camino de la Costa between Avenida Cresta and Avenida Cortez, and another set of stairs at the foot of Bird Rock Avenue. There is no beach in the area to speak of but at low tide the tidepools are excellent and both children and adults will enjoy checking out the sea life. The shoreline is rocky and rugged, so use caution.
